Benevolence Ministry

Providing practical help and support to those in need within the community. Be a part of a ministry that makes a difference in people’s lives.

Jesus says in Matthew 19:14 “Let the little children come to Me, and not forbid them, for of such is the Kingdom of heaven.

Children's Ministry

6 weeks through the 5th grades.
It is our responsibility to supplement what you are teaching your child at home. We hold fast to the promise in Proverbs 22:6 which says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Speak the Word of God to them. Their spirits are well able to receive it.
Your child's spirit, soul, and body
We know that as parents your main concern is your child’s (spirit, soul, and body), so as parents, God has called you to play a most important part in the formation of your child’s spiritual growth. You are the ones to disciple your children as to who God is and how to have a relationship with Him. To help them understand that He alone is the one who changes hearts.
Our vision for the children
Our vision for the children here at LHCC is to provide a loving, secure and fun environment in which a child will be encouraged to develop into the young person that God wants them to be. The most important part of the child’s Christian walk is the foundation, because a building can only be as strong as the foundation on which it stands.

We wrap up the night with worship, lifting our voices and hearts to Jesus, deepening our relationship with Him and one another.

Want to get involved?
We’re always grateful for volunteers and donations! If you’d like to help by bringing food or drinks for the youth or offering your time, we’d love to have you join us. Email Michael to get started—we welcome your support in making a difference in these young lives!

Benevolence Ministry

For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, the needy and to the poor, in your land. ~ Deuteronomy 15:11

Food Distribution Program: Providing Hope and Support

The Food Distribution Program is a key part of our Benevolence Ministry, dedicated to providing essential food support to families and individuals in need. Established in 2009 by Pastor Sherman Pemberton, the program has been steadily growing, serving an increasing number of families in our community each year.
Who We Serve
Since our first distribution in April 2009, we’ve had the privilege of serving families from La Habra, Fullerton, Rowland Heights, Whittier, Brea, Monterey Park, Walnut, and La Puente. As of 2023, we’re assisting an average of 100 families each month, equating to over 400 individuals in our local area.
Where Our Food Comes From
We receive between 2,600-3,000 pounds of food each month through the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank via the The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), a government initiative aimed at helping those in need. Despite the scale of the program, our monthly operational costs remain around $100, allowing us to serve many with minimal expense.

Our Mission: More Than Just Food

While providing food is a critical aspect of our program, our mission extends beyond meeting physical needs. We aim to help families and individuals transition back to a self-sustaining life by offering:
  • Spiritual Guidance: Encouraging a deeper relationship with Christ through compassionate care.
  • Financial Counseling: Assisting families in managing their finances and making wise decisions.
  • Resource Information: Connecting individuals to other helpful services in the community.
We believe in following Christ’s example of compassion. As 1 John 3:17 teaches, "If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?" By caring for those in need, we honor God and live out the teachings of Proverbs 14:31 and Mark 8:2.
Food Distribution Details
  • When: First Saturday of every month, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Where: LHCC Gym, La Habra Christian Church
  • Who Can Attend: Open to all families and individuals in need of food assistance

Volunteer Opportunities: Join Us in Making a Difference

If you would like to support our growing ministry, we welcome volunteers to help us serve the community.

  • Assist with loading food and other essential items into families’ vehicles
  • Help families complete the required paperwork for receiving food
  • Opportunities for high school students to earn community service hours while giving back to the community
Volunteer Hours:
Assist on the day of distribution from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Volunteer Dress Code:
  • Appropriate Attire: Jeans, pants, or long shorts with closed-toe shoes. Please avoid short/cutoff shirts or low-cut blouses.

ESL Ministry

Our conversational ESL class meets on Tuesday nights. We learned restaurant vocabulary and went to Marie Callendar's restaurant to eat, socialize and practice our English speaking skills to order from a menu. We are a loving and kind group that enjoys worshipping the Lord and improving our English. Many in our group have been baptized and joined LHCC and are regular attendees who enjoy service to others and fellowship.
